Twenty-three-year-old Chanchal Sharma, with whom the victim Rahul Yadav had a relationship, also suffered burn injuries. She claimed that the man accidentally caught fire while trying to set her ablaze after pouring kerosene on her at her place, while her family members tried to rescue both of them, she said.

Yadav died during treatment at a hospital in Sagar on Friday. In his dying declaration, he alleged that he had got a call on Thursday night and he was asked to visit the woman’s house for a meeting. He said that when he went there, four members of her family poured kerosene on him and set him ablaze, Singh said.

Later, when the victim’s family members got information about the incident, they rushed him to the hospital, he added.

A case of murder has been registered against the four accused and further investigation is underway, the police official said.

The family members of the deceased staged a blockade on Sagar-Bina Road on Friday evening, demanding  for the house of the woman’s family to be demolished. However, they called off the protest after an assurance from Madhya Pradesh’s urban administration minister Bhupendra Singh. “We will punish them so that people will never think of committing such crime,” the minister said.

According to the Hindustan Times, Yadav and Sharma had been in a relationship for a few years. Her parents did not approve, and last year married her off to someone else. She came back to her parents’ house a few days ago and called Yadav, who came to meet her, but the two were reportedly seen together by Sharma’s famil

SP Atul Singh said Raghvendra, Vishnu, Shubham and Deepak – the accused – tied Yadav’s hands and mercilessly thrashed him. “Later, they poured kerosene oil on him and set him afire and then pushed him off the roof. He landed in their cowshed,” Hindustan Times quoted Singh as saying
